Luke is a 6 year fighter of Crohn’s Disease. I can relate myself to Luke very much as he is married and a father of 3 girls (I have 3 daughters as well as 4 step-daughters) and lives a very active lifestyle. Just having girls will keep you active enough.
Luke’s go-to drug right now is Humira and has kept him in remission for the last 1 and a half years. I love this drug as I have been on it for the last 9 years. There are some pretty strong side affect possibilities, but it is worth it in the end as long as you get your blood draws and get your levels checked.
I love Luke’s attitude with dealing with his Crohn’s. “Crohn’s is beatable with a positive attitude, healthy diet and regular exercise routines are all factors that help with Crohn’s.” I have found that in my training for the marathon, this has really helped me and kept all symptoms in check.
Luke’s response to if Crohn’s has held him back on doing things in life is awesome. Like most Crohnnies, we won’t let Crohn’s beat us. We will push ourselves when we have flare ups and when the cramps set in, we make sure that we get plenty of rest and stay positive. We all just learn to deal with it all and push through.
It is people like Luke I run for.
