Business Travel and Running

IMG_1573I am ‘fortunate’ where I am able to do a little travel with my job. The one thing you can’t do is not train just because you are traveling. In the last 2 weeks, I have been in Mid-Ohio, Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. I have been asked why I don’t take a little time off while traveling. The fact is, I love taking in different sights as I do a lot of the same routes at home that involve a lot of soy and corn field views while at home. The training can’t stop while training for a marathon. You have to keep on going.

One thing to consider while traveling is to check out the area before just going out for your run. Take a drive around and take in the sights and take note of the surroundings. While I was in Covington, KY, I did a little research since it is right on the Ohio River across from Cincinnati. I saw that there were some river walks and I had to take advantage of it. There were several bridges that were pedestrian friendly and picked one out. I wanted to catch sunrise, like most of my runs, so I was out the front of the hotel by about 6:15 knowing there was about a half mile to the bridge from where I was staying. When I got to the bridge, I was taken back by the sights. It was a gorgeous morning and light cloud cover. I ran along the river for about 2.5 miles taking in all of the scenery as I ran along the river and the Great American Ballpark.

We are now less than 80 days from the start of the marathon and the runs are getting longer and I am feeling better about myself finishing under 4 hours which is my ultimate goal. I’ve had a few runs over 13 miles and felt really good about them. I will just need to pick up my speed a little, but I’m not too concerned on that right now. I know it it come. The Crohn’s has stayed in check and hasn’t shown it’s ugly face at all which is my ultimate fear while running. I have heard that running can help patients with Crohn’s so I am rolling with that since I have been feeling so good lately.

Want to help find a cure? Please help me get to my new goal of $2500 and support me and my ‘crohnnies’ help find a cure and run this marathon together.
